Happy 27th birthday to the best big sister, Ina! I love you!!
~~~~~
I’m back for another round of What I Ate Wednesday hosted by the lovely Jen!
I didn’t eat super clean this past weekend because my sister, parents, and friends were in town. My sister and I may have overdosed on HipCityVeg, and we enjoyed every second of it. If you’re ever in Philadelphia, please go there. Whether you’re a vegetarian or meat-lover, it will not disappoint.
Anyways, I cleaned up my eats as soon as Monday rolled around, and thank goodness yesterday’s meals were a tad bit more exciting than last week’s chicken and broccoli that I had for every meal.
Meal 1: 1/2 cup oats with frozen blueberries and flax meal, 1 organic cage-free egg and 1/2 cup egg whites
Meal 2: chicken, sweet potato fried in coconut oil, and spinach
Meal 3: lemon poppyseed greek yogurt! Last week, I combined some paleo lemon poppyseed cookies that I made with greek yogurt, and it was one of the best things I ever ate. I didn’t feel like baking cookies again just to mix them with my yogurt, so I figured I’d just make lemon poppyseed greek yogurt.
~~~~~
Lemon Poppyseed Greek Yogurt
Serves 1-2
Ingredients:
- 1 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt
- juice of 1 lemon (about 2 tbsp)
- 1/2 tsp poppyseed
- about 3/4 packet of Truvia
Directions: combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly before serving.
~~~~~
Voila , so quick and easy!
Meal 4: veggie burger with turkey bacon on Ezekiel bread and broccoli because I was slackin’ on the veggie front today
Meal 5/PWO: protein shake with a banana…I’m trying out this new-to-me brand of protein, and I’m loving it so far! Does anyone else associate peaches & cream with this song by 112 from back in the day?! I definitely just cracked up watching the music video.
Meal 6: I’ve been playing around with casein “cakes” as my last meal of the day. I used banana casein for this one. I’m still trying to get it a little more moist. Even though it was kind of rubbery, I still ate it topped with a tbsp of all natural peanut butter and raw cacao nibs. Peanut butter makes anything edible in my book.
Nom, nom!
I feel like I have to run a lot of errands, but I’m not sure what. Getting my haircut is quickly becoming my number one priority. It is getting out of control long.
I’ll leave you with this beautiful picture of me.
Stay warm east coasters!!!
Question of the day:
Do you drink protein shakes? If so, do you stick with chocolate/vanilla flavors or fruity flavors?
I have always stuck with chocolate/vanilla, but the fruity flavored proteins are starting to grow on me! I wish I could buy a variety pack from somewhere.
Lemon Poppyseed Yogurt sounds like a great concoction and your photo makes it look even better.
I’m not into protein shakes but have been using vanilla protein powder as a yogurt-add-in. But even if I did I wouldn’t be able to find any fun protein powder flavours around here.
I SO hear you on needing a haircut. That’s something I keep rescheduling, too. Fingers crossed I’ll get it done tomorrow.
I love using protein powder to give plain yogurt some flavor! I STILL haven’t gotten a haircut..I hope you were able to get one!
Haha, yes, I got mine done just today.
I drink mocha click protein shakes because they taste like Starbucks:)
Mmm I would love that if I liked coffee…I know, call me crazy
Girl, if I fly to you will you cook me all of these delicious meals?? I too need a haircut, so we can even go get one together Ha Ha
Haha YES please come back to the states! I’m hoping I’ll still get to meet you when you come back in March
I actually don’t drink protein shakes, I incorporate them into eggs and make pancakes!
I use egg, pea, hemp or rice bran protein and usually stick to vanilla or cinnamon – I don’t really like chocolate and protein powders tend to taste far too chocolatey… I can mix vanilla with a little chocolate if I am feeling CRAZY (lol)…
Haha that’s interesting – chocolate is always my favorite! I’ve never heard/seen cinnamon protein. I do like cinnamon but not sure if I’d enjoy that as a protein flavor…I love using protein to make pancakes too. Yum!
I do have protein shakes…. at least once a day. I find they’re helpful for maintaining good nutrition and I often toss in 2 or 3 cups of raw spinach so I ensure I get my greens in.
Your diet is super clean! Very nice!
I also used to add spinach to my shakes, but I got tired of blending it and dirtying another dish haha! Lazy, lazy…
Mmmmm that cake looks totally bomb!!! i don’t drink protein drinks, they always bother my stomach
so jealous of how long your hair is!!
I hear whey bothers a lot of people. I think it makes me bloat but then again, what doesn’t?!
Mmmm… I’ve been mixing Lemon and vanilla liquid Nunaturals stevia with greek yogurt to make lemony cream and it’s awesome. I’m a total lover of frozen blueberries in oatmeal too, they get sooooo melty
I’ve actually never tried liquid stevia but really want to, especially the flavored ones. I just always stick to the extract. Frozen fruit in oatmeal is awesome. Just had it again this morning
thanks for the warm wishes! that hair pic is too cute and i can’ ttell that you need a haircut from it! but i know that feeling when your hair is just MEH long and you want to chop off those dead ends.
that lemon poppyseed yogurt is a great idea! i honestly don’t like lemon flavored stuff that much but my friend kim does, she’d go crazy for that!
i’m more interested in that sweet potato meal. mmm.
Ahhh l’m obsessed with lemon flavored anything. I also just eat lemons. I’m normal. Yeah, I feel like my hair is actually gross long. I don’t know of any cheap haircut places around me though and I don’t feel like paying a zillion dollars at a salon to get a few inches chopped!
I am still on a quest for some good protein. I hate it all lol. Okay, not hate, but I usually end up sticking to one that I find tolerable (if I throw in frozen fruit or a banana, it makes anything even more tolerable), but really wish I could find one I just like. And not chocolate (bleh).
hehe. No wonder your young self is kicking butt in all these workouts and runs!
And.. I like your new profile picture.. and not sure why I didn’t notice before, but you’re only 23?? Such a baby..
What is a casein cake?
Omg I’m a protein snob and can’t tolerate bad tasting protein! You should definitely try About Time (but stay tuned for a potential giveaway). They use clean ingredients and the flavors are pretty awesome. Hahaha I can’t believe you didn’t know I’m 23! Yeah yeah, you’re not old either so you can’t use that excuse missy!!
I totally just made up “casein cake” haha. I mixed casein with almond milk, green yogurt, coconut flour, and some other ingredients to make a cake-ish thing. It has made me bloat like crazy though, so I haven’t made it again.
Haha and I totally meant GREEK, not green yogurt.
Connie, you’re such a doll. Only as old as you feel, right?
I still haven’t tried the cookie butter, but thinking it might be awesome in a protein shake.. I’ve been loosening up my diet a bit lately to accommodate MORE food (such problems we have!), but I think I can make room for it in moderation.
Looking forward to your potential giveaway!!!
Great idea with the greek yogurt! Love it. I wish they had smoothie variety packs, too. You have to buy so much of one flavor when you buy it! Takes me forever to get through.
